Warm Creamy Porridge

In Winter having porridge for breakfast is a great alternative to cereal or greasy bacon and eggs. And it’s a great source of fibre, complex carbohydrates and calcium! Triple +++’s in my books.

The Long Road Home

While we headed home to Sydney we saw in the distance very low and dark storm clouds, it started off as a slow sprinkle of rain then we encountered the hail storm!! Luckly for us we were in a hire car. Gosh it was scary though, i’ve never been stuck in a car in the middle of a hail storm.

Baby Spinach Noodle Salad

I love the freshness of this salad, with the Asian inspired flavours of sesame and the Maggie seasoning. Great to have with a meal, or just add a bit more pasta and it transforms into a satisfying meal by itself. I learnt how to make this while over in Melbourne at Lynda’s place.

500 g baby spinach
1 red onion (sliced)
1 red capsicum (sliced)
250 g snow peas (sliced)
125 g angel hair pasta
1 tbsp sesame seedsDressing
2 tbsp Maggie seasoning
1 tbsp sesame oil

Salad IMG_3001.jpg

Wash and prepare all the vegetables, cook the pasta and drain well.

Combine all the ingredients together in a large bowl, adding the dressing and stirring through.

Carpetbag Steak

Who would have thought this would make such a good combination, many people don’t really go for the surf and turf arrangement but this you have got to try! A BIG THANK YOU to Mr H for teaching me how to make this fantastic meal, it turned out super and all the flavours really tasted unbelievable, and it was such great fun cooking together!
Here’s a bit of a history lesson about Carpetbag Steak.

To make this delicious recipe you need the following ingredients
6 sirloin eye fillet steaks
1 dozen fresh oysters
6 bacon slices
12 toothpicks
oil

With a sharp knife make a slit into the side of the steak, then move the knife cutting to make a pocket inside the steak.

steakIMG_2988.jpg

Stuff with an oyster so that it fits inside the steak, repeat this process on the other side of the steak.

steakIMG_2989.jpg

Using the bacon warp firmly around the steak and use toothpicks to secure while cooking.

Lightly oil a griddle pan and cook according as desired.
